• Waking up alone the next morning, like I had been doing since I kicked Lauren out of the house, I showered, dressed, ate some breakfast, before I sent one last message to my sister, almost pleading with her to make contact with me. I gave it a couple of hours without reply before I finally got up, grabbed my keys, and headed out to my car.
• Parking outside her apartment building around fifteen minutes later, I let myself in downstairs as she had given each of us keys to her place. Heading upstairs to her floor, I knocked on the door but heard nothing from inside. I knocked a few times before I finally tried my keys. Letting myself in, I heard the television was on in the living room.
• "Marielle?" I called out, "Are you home, sweetie?" I knew she'd recognise my voice so didn't need to announce who it was. "Marielle? We're really worried about you, sweetie. It's been weeks since anyone heard from you."
